Goose Island Salt Shed Brewpub

AltusWorks is honored to have led the design of Goose Island Beer Company’s new brewpub, relocated from its previous Clybourn Ave location to the riverfront gateway of the historic Salt Shed entertainment complex. The new space integrates Goose Island’s original bar, the familiar central “table” to belly up to, surrounded by a brewhouse, fermenters, and a full commercial kitchen. Striking cedar slat and moss walls, classic subway tile, and re-used industrial steel doors recall Goose Island’s heritage while establishing a fresh, contemporary atmosphere. The interior flows around the central bar, guiding guests through varied seating areas and out to an expansive terrace overlooking the Chicago River.

The former garage building adapted for the brewpub is original to the Morton Salt Company Warehouse Complex, designed by Graham, Anderson, Probst & White, where salt was once stored, packaged, and distributed nationwide. We are delighted to see this historic industrial beauty revitalized and reimagined to honor Goose Island’s 35-year legacy in Chicago while showcasing their brand refresh and looking ahead to their next chapter.
