CTA Grand, Chicago, and Division Blue Line Stations Renovation

Chicago, IL

As the Street Level Designer collaborating with Muller2 on the F.H. Paschen Design/Build team for the renovation of Chicago Transit Authority’s (CTA) Grand, Chicago, and Division Blue Line Stations, AltusWorks led the design adaptation of their successful entrance canopy at CTA Harrison Red Line Station to meet the context specific challenges of the three multi-street intersections, triangular public plazas, and dense urban conditions. The entrance canopies constructed of concrete, steel and glass are designed to provide a barrier between pedestrians and the roadways while providing clear sight lines around and through the enclosures for riders’ safety and comfort. This section of CTA Blue Line, commonly referred to as the Dearborn Subway, links the North-South section in Chicago’s Central Business District to the Northwest line servicing O’Hare International Airport. The project is part of the ‘Your New Blue’ 2015 Program (YNB) launched in 2015 which contributes to the overall and ongoing efforts to modernize Chicago’s mass transit system in service of residents and visitors alike.
