Envelope Evaluation and Repair
College of Medicine West Building Envelope Restoration
As a trusted and valued partner to University of Illinois at Chicago’s Facility Services and the Office of Capital Planning, AltusWorks was awarded two contracts for architectural services in 2007 and 2013, related to envelope repairs at the National Register eligible 1930 College of Medicine West Building (COMWest). Executed during occupancy, and in coordination with a large interior renovation, AltusWorks identified and designed two repair programs to rectify masonry deterioration, window and roof failure, and eliminate abandoned surface mounted ductwork. Knowledge of the existing wall construction and failure modes was applied to the assessment, scope development and detailing of the design to augment the effectiveness of the restoration program for the University.
